Home Rewiring Helensburgh

If your home hasn’t been upgraded in the last 25 years or so, it may require a partial or full rewire. This involves replacing all the old electrical wires with modern specification wiring.

A rewire is a significant but necessary home upgrade. Due to the disruptive nature of the work, we strongly recommend you vacate the property if possible. Arranging your rewire to take place when you are on holiday, for example, is ideal.

If this is not possible we can work around you, but bear in mind that we will need to switch the power off, lift floors and dig in to wall cavities, as well as gain access to loft spaces. We will minimise inconvenience, but a certain level of disruption is unavoidable due to the nature of the task.

Rewiring F.A.Q.

These questions are often asked

We need access to every room that has sockets or lights – i.e. every room in the property. Electrical cables run under floors, within walls, and through loft/roof spaces. This means we need to lift carpets and floorboards, and dig channels in the walls where the light switches run. If needed, we can stagger the work in stages so that we do not need access to every room at once. The power will need to be off while we work.

We aim to lift carpets, skirtings and floors without damaging them. Walls that need to be channelled need to be patch repaired with plaster. This is a small, localised repair rather than re-plastering the whole room. However, if a room is wallpapered, we will obviously tear a section of the paper, so these walls will need to be redecorated. For this reason a rewire is best undertaken before any major redecoration plans.

The cost of a rewire depends a great deal on the size, age and condition of a property. We can’t provide an accurate estimate without first assessing your property, but if you get in touch we would be happy to provide a no-obligation quote.

Again, the time taken to complete a full rewire depends in large part on the size of the property, and the difficulty of accessing the things we need to do to complete the job. However, to give you an idea what to expect, we can typically rewire a three bedroom home in four days.
